When the bombs began to fall, Dr. Lev Prystupiuk, known fondly as “Dr. Lev,” could have done what millions of Ukrainians did: gather his family and flee. But that’s not who he is. Instead, he chose to stay and fight the only way he knew: by healing.
As supply chains collapsed, Dr. Lev reached out to Global Care Force for help. His Kyiv hospital was desperate for medical supplies, medications, and wound therapy equipment. Our generous donors and medical supply partners quickly answered the call, providing more than 10,000 doses of antibiotics and thousands of dollars of medical equipment!
Knowing that many medical professionals would be called into combat hospitals, Dr. Lev turned his focus to the villagers whose access to healthcare had vanished under Russian occupation. Once again, he turned to Global Care Force. Over the past three years, 150 selfless doctors, nurses, paramedics and non-medical volunteers from around the world have answered his call, traveling long distances to deliver care and hope, all sparked by the compassion and determination of this one remarkable man. It’s why so many call him the “guardian angel of Ukraine!”
This October, you’ll have the chance to meet him. Dr. Lev will travel to the U.S. as a special guest at our Healing Hands, Global Hearts Dinner on October 5, and then continue to Denver, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.
He will share firsthand accounts of the devastation endured by his people, stories of pain and loss that are both heartbreaking and unimaginable. Stories like the mother who watched in horror as a missile struck her son while he sat with friends in their yard, leaving her to bury what remained of his body. He will share the exhaustion and daily trauma of air raid alerts, sounds of explosions, and the haunting sight of new names added to memorials for the dead.
But even amid such destruction, he’ll tell you about the courage and resilience of his countrymen, and how you have saved countless lives and given them hope!
