For Glen Dopp, RN, volunteering is a meaningful way to give back, and he takes advantage of opportunities whenever his schedule allows. Although he knew little about the humanitarian crisis in Egypt, when he learned Global Care Force was seeking volunteers to provide healthcare to refugees, he felt compelled to join the team.

Tell us a little about yourself. What is your background, and where are you from?
I was born and raised in a rural community in Northern Minnesota, where I developed a deep appreciation for serving others. My passion for helping people led me to a career in healthcare, which I have pursued for over 20 years across diverse settings. I am a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner currently working in rural New Mexico, where I continue to focus on providing accessible and compassionate care to underserved communities.

How did you hear about Global Care Force?
I first learned about Global Care Force through social media when it was COVID Care Force. I saw a call for volunteers to assist the Navajo Nation and felt compelled to contribute. I spent several weeks volunteering in different areas on the Navajo Reservation, a deeply rewarding experience. I was profoundly grateful for the organization’s dedication to mobilizing volunteers to provide much-needed support.

You volunteered with the first Global Care Force team in Egypt. Why did you want to volunteer in Egypt?
Volunteering has always been a way for me to give back, and I seize opportunities when time permits. When I saw that Global Care Force was organizing a mission to Egypt to deliver healthcare to refugees, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. The timing worked out, and I felt privileged to join the team on this meaningful trip.

Tell us about the experience. Did you know much about the humanitarian crisis in Egypt, which involved refugees from dozens of other countries?
Before volunteering, I had limited knowledge about the humanitarian crisis in Egypt. Even after reading the email calling for volunteers, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Once we arrived, we encountered refugees from numerous countries, many of whom had fled with only the clothes on their backs and no access to healthcare or medications. The gratitude expressed by the people we cared for was touching, and it was an honor to help provide these essential services during such a critical time.

What are some of the things you will remember the most?
The people I worked with left a lasting impression on me. The translators, local staff, and fellow volunteers were extraordinarily passionate and dedicated to the mission. I’ll always remember the profound gratitude of the patients, who showed immense resilience despite their challenging circumstances. It was truly an honor to be part of such a compassionate and committed team.

What stories can you share about a patient, an Egyptian staff member, or another volunteer that impacted you?
The entire experience was transformative. Witnessing the collective passion and selflessness of the entire volunteer team was equally motivating. It reinforced the incredible impact a group of dedicated individuals can have when united by a shared purpose.

The purpose of Global Care Force is to inspire transformative life experiences through volunteering. Would you agree?
Absolutely. Volunteering with Global Care Force has been life-changing. It offers the opportunity to give back while addressing critical healthcare needs in underserved areas. These experiences not only transform the lives of those we serve but also profoundly impact the volunteers, fostering personal growth and a deeper understanding of global challenges.

If someone is considering volunteering with Global Care Force, what would you tell them?
Do it! At least once a year, plan a trip to a location you feel passionate about. Being intentional and scheduling a volunteer opportunity is key. Otherwise, it’s easy for time to slip by. Volunteering with Global Care Force is an unforgettable experience that allows you to make a tangible difference. You won’t regret it!

Each experience with Global Care Force has been exceptional. The organization provides invaluable support to communities in need while creating meaningful opportunities for volunteers to contribute.
